HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 3/20/17/–Chuck Berry invented Rock N Roll. That’s my opinion anyway. So many great artists are virtually tied for that distinction but for my money Chuck was simply #1. Perhaps it’s because I’m a guitar player or because I got to meet him and photograph him. However after listening again to his landmark songs since his passing I am convinced he was ‘the man.’
Maybellene, Johnnie B. Goode, Sweet Little Sixteen, Rock And Roll Music, Nadine, Memphis Tennessee, Back in the U.S.A., You Can Never Tell, Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Roll Over Beethoven, and yes, even My Ding-A-Ling.
He influenced his contemporaries and certainly all the greats who followed him. He was the greatest of songwriters and I think the greatest guitarist. He entertained us all, and for 60 plus years.
Berry’s music will live forever like that of his predecessors Louis Armstrong, Irving Berlin, T-Bone Walker, W.C. Handy, George and Ira Gershwin, Scott Joplin, Woody Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams, Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Brahms, and a guy name Ludwig. Yes indeed, Roll Over Beethoven!
