PIGBOY CRABSHAW RETURNS WITH NEW ALBUM ON ALLIGATOR<\/p>\n

Chicago (Perfect Music Toda) 12\/28\/16\/–Yes of course we are talking about the great Elvin Bishop who has a new\u00a0release out in early 2017 on Alligator Records called \u2018Elvin Bishop\u2019s\u00a0Big Fun Trio.\u2019 It is his first release for three years following the\u00a0mercurial \u2018Can\u2019t Even Do Wrong Right\u2019 which was nominated for\u00a0a Grammy. Since then he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll\u00a0Hall of Fame with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and he won the\u00a0Living Blues Award for best blues album of 2014 along with three\u00a0other awards from the organization.<\/p>\n

He is also prominently featured in a seldom seen film about\u00a0The Chicago blues scene in the sixties, and I was lucky enough\u00a0to see him perform live at the Grammy Museum in Hollywood in\u00a02015 along with Butterfield band member Sam Lay. It was the first time\u00a0I had seen him live since a magical night in 1966 at a small club\u00a0in England for the Butterfield Blues Band \u2018East West\u2019 tour,\u00a0Of course Bishop will always be remembered for his hit 1975 record\u00a0\u2018Fooled Around And Fell in Love\u2019 with the vocals performed by Mickey\u00a0Thomas of Jefferson Starship fame.<\/p>\n

Now we move forward to 2017 and the new release which also features\u00a0Bob Welsh and Willie Jordan. Bishop is known for his stinging guitar\u00a0Style, and on this album there are four originals, three co-writes and five\u00a0covers. Session musicians brought in to round out the sound are Kim\u00a0Wilson, Charlie Musselwhite and Rick Estrin.\u00a0Bishop got his first paying gig in 1962 as a member of the Junior Wells\u00a0Band in Southside Chicago before joining the Butterfield Blues Band in 1965 as\u00a0joint lead guitarist with the amazing Michael Bloomfield. He stayed for three\u00a0wonderful albums including \u2018The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw\u2019 when he was\u00a0lead guitarist following the departure of Bloomfield. He joined Alligator Records\u00a0in 1988 and recorded five albums in twelve years, and returned to them in 2014\u00a0after stints at Blind Pig and Delta Groove Records. He performs regularly in the\u00a0San Francisco and Northern California circuit, and is a hot ticket because of his\u00a0good time style and stellar background on the blues festival circuit.<\/p>\n

Although he was born in California, he grow up mainly on farms in\u00a0Iowa and Oklahoma. This almost certainly accounts for his hillbilly\u00a0country yokel appearance and image, but he is always dead serious\u00a0about his music.<\/p>\n
