ERIC CLAPTON RETURNS WITH NEW ALBUM ON SURFDOG RECORDS<\/p>\n

HOLLYWOOD(Perfect Music Today)9\/12\/16\/–The veteran blues guitarist has returned with a new release on\u00a0Surfdog Records out of Encinitas near DeL Mar in California with a\u00a0new album called \u00a0The LP is produced by none other than\u00a0Glyn Johns, a true legend in the recording studio from the Eagles\u00a0and Steve Miller and followed by many more.<\/p>\n

The line up backing musicians is also impressive with the likes of Henry\u00a0Spinetti (drums), Paul Carrack (organ,vocals), Andy Fairweather\u00a0Low (guitars, vocals) and Chris Stainton (keyboards). What also\u00a0Stands out about the album is the cover art, a painting of Clapton\u00a0by Sir Peter Blake, an upbeat pose of the seventy-year old guitar\u00a0legend who by all accounts now prefers an early night as opposed\u00a0to a night on the town.<\/p>\n

There are a dozen tracks which include covers of songs by Bob\u00a0Dylan, JJ Cale, Robert Johnson, Skip James and Leroy Carr. There\u00a0are two Clapton originals, and the album was recorded at British\u00a0Grove Studios in London. Mastering was done by Bob Ludwig\u00a0and Vinyl Mastering by Bernie Grundman.<\/p>\n

Long time Clapton fans will appreciate the bluesy, easy going sound\u00a0of the album that starts out with a straight blues song “Alabama Woman\u00a0Blues\u201d by Leroy Carr with strong keyboard work. Slide guitar enthusiast\u2019s\u00a0will love Clapton\u2019s version of the seldom heard \u2018Stones In My Passway\u2019\u00a0by Robert Johnson. The closing track on the album is yet another stab\u00a0at an old standard, a trend we have seen in Clapton\u2019s recent albums,\u00a0and this time he tries \u201cI\u2019ll be seeing you,\u201d and a very creditable version\u00a0it is.<\/p>\n

His version of Dylan\u2019s \u201cI dreamed I saw St.Augustine\u201d from the John\u00a0Wesley Hardin album is a strange choice, but Clapton nearly pulls it\u00a0off. Even though I still prefer the rather basic feel of the original, this\u00a0version suits his voice quite well. The traditional \u201cI\u2019ll be Allright\u201d\u00a0ambles along at a nice slow pace with Clapton\u2019s soulful vocals and\u00a0restrained guitar style that is now his trademark.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t Let You Do It\u2019 by JJ Cale treads very familiar ground with some\u00a0nice subtle guitar licks to go along with the catchy rhythm, and\u00a0he also does a real mellow version of Cale\u2019s \u201cSomebody\u2019s Knocking.\u201d\u00a0The Skip James song \u201cCypress Grove\u201d is yet another rare chestnut\u00a0Clapton has produced from the vaults, and allows him to stretch out a\u00a0bit on the guitar and is probably his best gutsy blues vocalizing on\u00a0the album.<\/p>\n

Surfdog Records have quite a few acts on their roster and currently\u00a0also put out albums by Dave Stewart, Brian Setzer and Glen Campbell\u00a0to name a few<\/p>\n
