HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 12\/5\/21\/–On January 5, ABKCO will release the single \u201cSpeak Now,\u201d a new song performed by Leslie Odom Jr.\u00a0 Odom, along with Sam Ashworth, wrote the original composition. The song soars over the end title credits of the upcoming film\u00a0One Night In Miami…<\/em>. and is a reflection of Odom\u2019s own point of view regarding the ongoing struggle for civil rights and human dignity.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeak Now\u201d<\/em>\u00a0appears on\u00a0One Night In Miami\u2026 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)<\/em>\u00a0set for release on January 15, concurrent with the film\u2019s debut on Amazon Prime Video. In the film, Leslie Odom Jr. portrays Sam Cooke and performs key compositions of Cooke\u2019s repertoire, including the masterpiece \u201cA Change Is Gonna Come\u201d Like some of Cooke\u2019s most notable work, Odom\u2019s words in \u201cSpeak Now\u201d is a contemplative entreaty that takes stock of our current circumstance with the resonant lyric:<\/p>\n

I swear we\u2019ll never find our way to where we\u2019re going, all alone (on our own)<\/em><\/p>\n

Odom reflects, \u201cThe movie is so special to me. Sam Cooke is dear to us all. We tried to hide that in the song we wrote.\u00a0In \u201cSpeak Now\u201d we\u2019ve called out to young people. It is an urgent call to action\u2014to speakset alongside our urging them to first listen.\u00a0\u00a0Listen…and then speak. We listen for instruction, for inspiration. Malcolm left them for us. Sam left them. So Sam Ashworth and I listened to them all. And then we wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n

In connection with the release of \u201cSpeak Now,\u201d ABKCO is launching a lyric video directed by Lucy Dawkins and Tom Readdy for London-based Yes Please Productions.\u00a0 The video makes visual reference to Miami\u2019s Hampton House Motel where much of\u00a0One Night In Miami\u2026\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0is set.<\/p>\n

Odom rose to prominence originating the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway musical\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0<\/em>for which he took home the Best Actor Tony\u00ae and Grammy\u00ae Awards. He recently released\u00a0The Christmas album<\/em>, his second holiday album, which follows the release of\u00a0Mr<\/em>, his third album and first of all-original material. Odom can also be heard voicing the character of Owen Tillerman in the Apple TV+ animated musical comedy series\u00a0Central Park<\/em>, a role which earned him an Emmy nomination.<\/p>\n

Regarding his role in\u00a0One Night In Miami<\/em>\u2026, Odom commented\u00a0\u201cPlaying Sam Cooke was some big shoes to fill. It was a challenge and an honor. I have such respect and admiration and awe for his talent and what he was able to achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Set on the\u00a0night\u00a0of February 25, 1964, the story of\u00a0One Night In Miami\u2026<\/em>\u00a0follows a young Cassius Clay (shortly before he became Muhammad Ali) as he emerges from the\u00a0Miami Beach Convention Center as the new World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Against all odds, he defeated Sonny Liston and shocked the sports world. While crowds of people swarm\u00a0Miami Beach to celebrate the match, Clay – unable to stay on there because of Jim Crow-era segregation laws –\u00a0instead spends the\u00a0night\u00a0at the Hampton House Motel\u00a0in one\u00a0of\u00a0Miami’s historically black neighborhoods. It was there that he celebrated his win with three of his closest friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam\u00a0Cooke\u00a0and football star Jim Brown. The next morning, the four men emerge determined to define a new world for themselves and their people. The ensemble cast consist of\u00a0Kingsley Ben-Adir as Malcolm X, Eli Goree as Cassius Clay, Aldis Hodge as Jim Brown as well as Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke.<\/p>\n

Directed by Oscar\u00ae\u00a0winner Regina King.\u00a0One Night In Miami\u2026<\/em>\u00a0was written for the screen by\u00a0Kemp Powers, based on his Olivier-nominated 2013 stage play, the film is produced by Jess\u00a0Wu\u00a0Calder and Keith Calder of Snoot Entertainment and Jody Klein\u00a0of ABKCO Films with King and Powers serving as executive producers.\u00a0The film will be distributed globally by Amazon Studios.<\/p>\n
