HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 12\/29\/20\/–A week or so before Christmas, we sent out news that this year\u2019s edition of\u00a0The Jungle Show<\/b>\u00a0is going virtual so the streak of end-of-year performances by Billy Gibbons, Jimmie Vaughan, Sue Foley, Chris Layton and Mike Flanigin continues for a sixth consecutive year. \u00a0Rolling Stone ran a piece on the event and we\u2019ve pasted it below.<\/div>\n

ZZ Top<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Billy Gibbons<\/a>\u00a0will livestream his sixth annual all-star Jungle Show concert from Austin, Texas, this New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For the past four years, Gibbons has convened this once-a-year blues supergroup with Jimmie Vaughan, Mike Flanigin, Sue Foley, and Chris Layton to play a couple of special gigs at Antone\u2019s in Austin. While this year\u2019s event will be virtual, the band will still be performing at Antone\u2019s, and the show will air at 8 p.m. in various time zones around the world, including ET and PT in the United States, plus 8 p.m. in London and Sydney.<\/p>\n

Tickets for all four broadcasts are on sale now via\u00a0the Jungle Show\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0for $25. A handful of merch bundles are available, too, as are VIP packages that come with a show poster signed by the band, a special VIP bandana, and exclusive access to bonus footage.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor five years consecutive years we\u2019ve looked forward to putting the Jungle Show together between Christmas and New Year\u2019s Eve,\u201d Gibbons tells\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/i>. \u201cIt\u2019s been a great way for all of us to cap the old year and bring in the new in rockin\u2019 style. Despite the reality of 2020, we were determined to keep our streak going so we\u2019ve decided to go viral \u2014 the good kind of viral \u2014 and offer the Jungle Show to the world beyond Austin.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI look forward to playing with Sue, Chris, Mike, and Billy at the end of every year and this year is no different except for the fact that, in a sense, we\u2019ve moved the show \u2018way out in the woods\u2019 and directly into your house,\u201d Vaughan adds.<\/p>\n

The Jungle Show came about back in 2015 when Gibbons and Flanigin, an Austin-based organist, were tapped to perform at the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame\u2019s induction of B.B. King. By that point, most of King\u2019s staples had been picked up by other artists, so the pair decided to cover the 1967 deep cut, \u201cThe Jungle.\u201d They enjoyed the performance so much, they booked a follow-up show at Antone\u2019s despite not having a full-time band.<\/p>\n

To flesh out the rest of the line-up, Flanigin recruiting Layton, a drummer who\u2019d once played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, while Foley, a Canadian blues artist, first offered to open the show, but was eventually asked to join the band instead. The last piece came together when Vaughan jumped at the chance to play with Gibbons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jungle Show is something I look forward to every holiday season,\u201d Foley says. \u201cIt\u2019s just so much fun to get down and play some blues with these legends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jungle Show is great fun for all involved,\u201d Flanigin adds. \u201cBut beyond that, it is a rarified meeting of two of Texas\u2019 greatest guitar slingers, Billy Gibbons and Jimmie Vaughan. To see them together, prowling the stage, is worth the price of admission alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
