HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 12\/12\/20\/–This year marks the tenth anniversary of the theatrical release of Universal Pictures\u2019\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>. The film adaptation by director Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz<\/em>,\u00a0Baby Driver<\/em>) of Bryan Lee O\u2019Malley\u2019s graphic novel series stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kieran Culkin and has since become a cult classic due in no small part to the use of music in its storytelling. The soundtrack album and score were originally released in 2010 by ABKCO Records.<\/p>\n

Now ABKCO, with Edgar Wright and Nigel Godrich\u2019s oversight, has curated an expanded, four LP picture disc\u00a0Seven Evil Exes Edition<\/em>\u00a0offering of the soundtrack\/score, including more performances by Sex Bob-Omb and demos from Beck, as well as fan favorite \u201cBlack Sheep\u201d by Metric and sung by actress Brie Larson. The set is slated for release on March 26.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Each side of each LP is graced with an image of one of the \u201cSeven Evil Exes\u201d characters from the film, with an image of Scott Pilgrim with Ramona Flowers on the eighth side. This marks the first time ever that Godrich\u2019s score\u00a0<\/em>will get a vinyl release, which will also be available separately on a blue vinyl 2-LP set, also on March 26.<\/p>\n

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>\u00a0finds Cera\u2019s character smitten by Ramona Flowers (Winstead) and having to battle her seven evil exes who are out to kill him. Interwoven into the plot is a plethora of fictitious music groups acting out the performances of original compositions by real recording artists. Under the direction of producer Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, U2), Beck provided the music for Scott\u2019s low-fi garage band Sex Bob-Omb, Canadian synth-rockers Metric did the same for The Clash at Demonhead (fronted by Brie Larson), Broken Social Scene wrote and recorded for Crash and the Boys, and faux DJ duo Katayanagi Twins were brought to life by Cornelius. In some cases, the finished songs incorporate actual vocal and instrumental contributions from the actors who appear in the film.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wright and Godrich worked together for a two-year period, during which they essentially cast ultimate fantasy bands and got non-musician actors to learn their respective instruments with the aid of Chris Murphy from the band Sloan.\u00a0<\/strong>The original soundtrack, which went to #2 on the Billboard soundtrack chart, also includes songs by Frank Black, Beachwood Sparks, Black Lips, T. Rex, Blood Red Shoes, The Rolling Stones and The Bluetones.<\/p>\n

Edgar Wright, who in the last decade has written\/directed\u00a0The World\u2019s End<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Baby Driver<\/em>\u00a0and has directed the upcoming\u00a0psychological thriller\u00a0Last Night in Soho<\/em>, waxes nostalgic about the music of\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>.\u00a0 He commented, \u201cIt\u2019s been ten years since\u00a0Scott Pilgrim\u00a0<\/em>first made it\u00a0to the big screen and I think the fact that it\u2019s become so enshrined in the consciousness of so many for so long is due, in no small part, to the fact that the action was so music-driven.\u00a0The\u00a0Scott Pilgrim\u00a0<\/em>soundtrack and the score have played a huge role in making this an enduring phenomenon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since its release,\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)\u00a0<\/em>has received many accolades. UK\u2019s The Independent ranked it at number 4 out of \u201cthe 40 greatest film soundtracks of all time,\u201d declaring that Wright \u201cfound a way to seamlessly integrate his soundtrack into\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>\u2019s narrative.\u201d It was also included on Alternative Press\u2019 list of \u201c16 Fantastic Movie Soundtracks You Need To Hear.\u201d \u201cWe Are Sex Bob-Omb\u201d won the 2010 Houston Film Critics Society Award for Best Original Song.<\/p>\n
