HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 11\/9\/20\/–Guitarist\/songwriter\/singer Brian Ray continues his string of provocative singles with \u201cGot A New Thing,\u201d out November 13 from Wicked Cool Records.\u00a0 The track was written, produced and arranged by Ray who sings, plays guitars, and keyboards on it.\u00a0 He\u2019s joined by Weezer\u2019s Scott Shriner on bass and background vocals along with Abe Laboriel Jr., Brian\u2019s fellow Paul McCartney bandmate, on drums and additional vocals.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot A New Thing\u201d is backed with Brian\u2019s appropriately raucous take on Procol Harum\u2019s \u201cWhiskey Train\u201d on which Textones doyenne Carla Olson is featured. \u00a0Brian plays guitars, bass and keyboards. The single will be released on orange vinyl and available at\u00a0brianray.com<\/a>,\u00a0wickedcoolrecords.bandcamp.com<\/a>\u00a0as well as digital outlets this Friday.<\/p>\n

Brian Ray\u2019s career has included stints as guitarist and musical director for Etta James as well as studio work with a wide range of notable artists including Steve Goodman, Rita Coolidge, Kelly Clarkson, Juanes, Willy Deville, Shakira and France\u2019s legendary Johnny Hallyday. These were precursors to his ongoing tenure with Paul McCartney. As a member of \u201cMacca\u2019s\u201d touring band, Brian is featured on guitar, backing vocals and bass, the latter whenever Paul picks up a guitar or sits down at the piano.\u00a0 Both Brian\u2019s solo career and his work with The Bayonets, the band he fronted with Oliver Leiber, have been championed by Steven Van Zandt with heavy airplay on his Little Steven\u2019s Underground Garage channel on Sirius XM, dating back almost a full decade.\u00a0 Six of his last single releases have been certified as LSUG\u2019s \u201cThe Coolest Song in the World\u201d including such recent releases as \u201cPirate Radio,\u201d \u201cI Ain\u2019t Superstitious\u201d and \u201cOne Heartbeat\u201d featuring Smokey Robinson who originally recorded the song, penned by Ray, in the late \u201880s.\u00a0 Speaking of guests, The Bayonets\u2019 \u201cVagabond Soul\u201d featured Aerosmith\u2019s Steven Tyler on vocals and harmonica.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot A New Thing,\u201d explains Brian, \u201cwas inspired by garage pop\u2019s ease in expressing exultation and the idea of righteous justice being meted out. It\u2019s the \u201cyou\u2019re gonna get yours\u201d kind of expression found in so many great garage tunes.\u201d\u00a0 He went on to suggest the theme of the song is \u201cabout justice for the victims of sexual assault. It imagines the corrupt abuser being taken away in handcuffs and the victims going on to a new life, \u00a0a \u2018New Thing\u2019, if you will.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot A New Thing\u201d premieres worldwide on Little Steven\u2019s Underground Garage on Friday, November 13 with a full radio service to multiple formats thereafter.<\/p>\n
