HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 10\/7\/20\/–\u201cHollywood 151,\u201d one of the key tracks from\u00a0The Big Bad Blues<\/em>,\u00a0Billy Gibbons\u2019 award-winning solo album,\u00a0is the subject of a new video\u00a0set for\u00a0release this week. \u00a0 \u201cHollywood 151\u201d follows\u00a0the video for \u201cMissin\u2019 Yo\u2019 Kissin\u2019\u201d that has become an online sensation with sales of\u00a0The Big Bad Blues,\u00a0both physical and digital,\u00a0soaring since\u00a0that video debuted\u00a0early this spring.<\/p>\n

As with \u201cMissin\u2019 Yo\u2019 Kissin\u2019,\u201d Texas filmmaker Harry Reese shot \u201cHollywood 151\u201d with the\u00a0ZZ Top front man along\u00a0with Matt Sorum (drums) and Austin Hanks (guitar).\u00a0 Gibbons literally plays bottleneck guitar with a beer bottle serving as the slide along the fret board.<\/p>\n

The group had been together at The Roxy Theatre in LA on August 15 to perform on a MusiCares livestream benefit event that included participation by Ringo Starr, Linda Perry, Slash, Macy Gray, Jesse Malin, Cheap Trick, Taylor Momsen, Badflower, David Johansen, Darryl McDaniels (a.k.a. DMC), Gilby Clarke, and Donita Sparks. While together, yet socially distant, they moved locations to the streets of Hollywood which they cruised in a slammed and lowered \u201954 Chevy to the famed “Bourbon Room” on Hollywood Boulevard where the performance was shot.<\/p>\n

The song takes its inspiration from a late-night\u00a0Mexican\u00a0club duo in Los Angeles from back in the day, fueling their twin guitars and drum machine with 151 proof rum… a beverage so potent that they analogized it to a pre-mixed Molotov cocktail.\u00a0 While some of it may very well have been consumed over the course of the video shoot, visual and musical focus was maintained, and the result is a rollicking travelogue\/performance piece that underscores the endurance of\u00a0The Big Bad Blues<\/em>\u00a0album, initially released nearly two years ago.<\/p>\n

Billy Gibbons commented, \u201cUs three guys gathered for a special occasion, so we figured the next good idea was building on that happenstance and slate the video shoot immediately on site.\u00a0 We seized and pleased the moment and glad we did.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Big Bad Blue<\/em>s, named Best Blues Rock Album of the year at the Blues Music Awards in May of 2019, has remained a fixture on Billboard\u2019s Blues Chart since the release.\u00a0At present, BFG is working diligently on the follow up solo-album with Sorum and Hanks while creating the next ZZ Top release.<\/p>\n
