HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 9\/17\/20\/–ABKCO Records is releasing\u00a0The Devil All The Time (Music From The Netflix Film)<\/em>\u00a0on September 18 across all streaming and digital services, following the debut of the film on Netflix September 16.\u00a0The Devil All The Time<\/em>, directed by Antonio Campos (Christine, Simon Killer)<\/em>, is set in Ohio and West Virginia during the period between the end of World War II and the mid-1960s. The film\u2019s screenplay\u00a0<\/em>was written by Antonio Campos and Paulo Campos, adapted from Donald Ray Pollock\u2019s award-winning novel.\u00a0 The film\u2019s producers include Jake Gyllenhaal, Riva Marker and Randall Poster who, along with Meghan Currier, is its music supervisor.\u00a0 Author Donald Ray Pollock also provides the film\u2019s narration.<\/p>\n

In an explosive Midwestern Gothic tale spanning two decades, sinister characters converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and everything he loves.\u00a0The Devil All The Time<\/em>\u00a0also stars Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd, Riley Keough, Jason Clarke, Sebastian Stan, Haley Bennett, Harry Melling, Eliza Scanlan with Mila Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson. Celebrated Americana music artist Pokey LaFarge is also in the cast and is heard on the ABKCO soundtrack performing \u201cBanks of The Ohio\u201d as well as \u201cWashed in Blood\u201d with fellow cast member Harry Melling.\u00a0 ABKCO is relasing a 2-song EP of the tracks on which Pokey LaFarge is heard on September 16, the same day as the film\u2019s premiere.<\/p>\n

Key portions of the film\u2019s score, written by Saunder Jurriaans and Danny Bensi who worked with Antonio Campos on both\u00a0Christine<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Simon Killer<\/em>\u00a0are included on the album.\u00a0The pair are also known for work on\u00a0Ozark<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The OA<\/em>, both Netflix series.<\/p>\n

Pokey LaFarge was previously seen in\u00a0The Lone Ranger\u00a0<\/em>and portrayed country music legend Hank Snow on the CMT series\u00a0Sun Records<\/em>.\u00a0 Since his recording debut in 2006, he has released a total of nine full-length albums and has twice won the Independent Music Award for Best Americana Album and, in 2017, won the Ameripolitan Music Award for Best Western Swing Album.\u00a0 He was encouraged to audition for the role of Theodore in\u00a0The Devil All The Time<\/em>\u00a0by Randall Poster who had previously incorporated his music in the HBO series\u00a0Boardwalk Empire<\/em>\u00a0for which he served as music supervisor.<\/p>\n

Numerous classic country recordings are featured on\u00a0The Devil All The Time (Music From The Netflix Film),\u00a0<\/em>including the traditional folk song \u201cLittle Bessie\u201d by bluegrass legends The Stanley Brothers. Billy Walker\u2019s original 1961 country hit version of Willie Nelson\u2019s \u201cFunny How Time Slips Away\u201d and the 1946 King Records recording of \u201cHillbilly Boogie\u201d by the Delmore Brothers are included as is \u201cThe Three Bells,\u201d an adaptation of the French language hit \u201cLes Trois Cloches\u201d by The Browns that went to #1 in 1956. The set also includes \u201cPut It Off Until Tomorrow,\u201d by Bill Phillips. The song was written by a very young Dolly Parton who contributed harmony vocals to the 1966 Top 10 country hit.\u00a0 Other songs include Ferlin Husky\u2019s ground-breaking country gospel smash, \u201cWings of A Dove\u201d that spent ten weeks at the top of Billboard\u2019s country singles chart in 1960 and \u201cHoneycomb\u201d by Jimmie Rodgers. The song went to #1 on both the pop and R&B charts in 1957 and was a top 10 country single. \u201cYoung Love\u201d by Country Music Hall of Famer Sonny James stayed in the #1 position on Billboard\u2019s country singles chart for nine straight weeks in 1957 and is part of the album.\u00a0 Less well known but equally evocative is \u201cHe Says The Same Things To Me\u201d by Skeeter Davis, as produced by Chet Atkins. The single was her follow-up to \u201cI Can\u2019t Stay Mad At You\u201d and was a top 20 country hit in 1964.\u00a0 The \u201cBakersfield Sound\u201d is in evidence on the album with Wyn Stewart\u2019s \u201cWishful Thinking\u201d that hit the top 5 of the Billboard country chart in 1960.<\/p>\n

The Devil All The Time<\/em>\u00a0producer and music supervisor Randall Poster commented, \u201cMusic helps define these characters and an urgent reality. In this film, music is an effective counterpoint to some of the more suspenseful moments.\u00a0 I love country music and am always excited to \u2018step on the gravel road\u2019 and use it when I can.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad Pokey got the part and his \u2018Banks of The Ohio\u2019 reinforces the film\u2019s geography.\u00a0 We thought about how to use music to help people understand that we are traveling from 1946 to 1965 in a way that doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s self-conscious and doesn\u2019t jump out at the viewer.\u00a0 Music is an organic part of the film, used to set time and place and to capture the spiritual ground of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
