HOLLYWOOD (Perfect MusicToday) 6\/12\/20\/–Naturally 7<\/strong>\u00a0is releasing a new video for their song, “I Need Air.”\u00a0\u00a0The song and video come as a response to the issue of racially targeted police brutality and widespread systemic racism that has come to a head in the wake of George Floyd\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n

Roger Thomas, the group\u2019s founding member, commented, “The song is called\u00a0‘I Need Air’\u00a0and based on the fact that\u00a0air is essential and non-negotiable for life.\u00a0 If we struggle to\u00a0breathe, we struggle to live and is something all people can relate to.\u00a0 This is why the world has taken to the streets after hearing George Floyd utter the words\u00a0‘I can\u2019t breathe.’\u00a0The reality usually only visible to Black America is now on center stage for all to see \u2018what evil lurks in the hearts of men,\u2019 so to speak.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video conveys images of peaceful\u00a0protest and the inspiring words of hope from the civil rights movement juxtaposed with the violent reality that has plagued the black community throughout the history of the United States. The group has been actively engaging their fans in conversation on this topic over social media. The release of \u201cI Need Air\u201d serves as an emotional plea to the world that they, and the entire black community, “need air” both metaphorically and literally.<\/p>\n

“Being a conscious band of musicians,” Thomas continues,\u00a0 “We know that music is the soundtrack of most people\u2019s lives and have long believed that ‘music is the key.’<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s the only language we all speak and, as such, \u00a0can heal deep wounds when words are insufficient, \u00a0when our leaders and politicians have failed to unite us and \u00a0when apologies have arrived too late.”<\/p>\n

Thomas took to social media himself to discuss the importance of saying, “Black Lives Matter,” providing an eloquent and thought-provoking monologue that has inspired progressive conversation regarding change with the abiding hope that the conversation will continue on even larger scale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis moment in history demarcates a shift, it\u2019s a time of enlightenment and\u00a0 a time when the nation and the world is coming comes together to understand that not until\u00a0‘Black Lives Matter‘<\/strong>\u00a0will ‘All Lives Matter.’ It\u2019s \u00a0clear that laws don\u2019t change hearts, but we are optimistic that this time, hearts might change laws.\u201d<\/p>\n
