\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Set on the night of February 25, 1964, \u201cOne Night in Miami\u201d\u00a0<\/i>follows a young, brash Cassius Clay as he emerges from the Miami Beach Convention Center the new Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World.\u00a0 Against all odds, he defeated Sonny Liston and shocked the sports world.\u00a0 While crowds of people swarm Miami Beach to celebrate the match, Clay \u2013 unable to stay on the island because of Jim Crow-era segregation laws \u2013 spends the evening at the Hampton House Motel in Miami\u2019s African American Overtown neighborhood celebrating with three of his closest friends: Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown.\u00a0 During this historic evening, these icons, who each were the very representation of the Pre-Black Power Movement and felt the social pressure their cross-over celebrity brought, shared their thoughts with each other about their responsibilities as influencers, standing up, defending their rights and moving the country forward to equality and empowerment for all black people.\u00a0 The next morning, the four men emerge determined to define a new world for themselves and their community.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201d\u2019<\/i>One Night in Miami<\/i>\u2019<\/i>\u00a0is a love letter to black manhood that powerfully explores themes of race, identity and friendship,\u201d says Director Regina King.\u00a0 \u201cEach of them has contributed so much to culture and history.\u00a0 We\u2019re so excited to have Kingsley, Eli, Aldis and Leslie in the lead roles showing a different side of these iconic men.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Originally staged in 2013, Kemp Powers\u2019 critically acclaimed play takes a well-known real-life event and imagines what might have been. Powers explores this pivotal night, the\u00a0dynamic relationship between these four men,\u00a0and how their\u00a0friendship, successes and shared struggles fueled their paths to becoming the civil rights icons they are today.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ABOUT THE CAST:<\/u><\/b>\u00a0 Leslie Odom, Jr., in the role of Sam Cooke, will perform Cooke\u2019s songs in the film including \u201cA Change is Gonna Come,\u201d the classic song that became an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement in 1960s America and is still an anthem of hope over 50 years later.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
