As of this morning, National Public Radio\u2019s First Listen has made\u00a0Both Sides of the Sky,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the much-anticipated new Jimi Hendrix album, available to stream in its entirety through March 9. The album, containing 10 previously unreleased tracks, will be released on CD, digital, and as a numbered 180-gram audiophile vinyl 2LP on Friday, March 9 by Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings.<\/p>\n

HOLLYWOOD (Perfect Music Today) 2\/27\/18\/–Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings have today released a limited Jimi Hendrix, numbered edition, 7\u201d vinyl single to be available exclusively at select independent record stores. Fans can find the closest local indie retailer stocking the 7\u201d at\u00a0http:\/\/www.recordstoreday.com\/UPC\/190758239972<\/a>. \u201cLover Man\u201d is drawn from Jimi Hendrix\u2019s upcoming album\u00a0Both Sides of the Sky<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(out March 9), and is backed by a live version of \u201cFoxey Lady,\u201d recorded in Bussum, Holland in November 1967. Both tracks are previously unreleased.<\/p>\n

Yesterday morning, album co-producer Eddie Kramer called into the top rated Chris Evans Breakfast Show on the UK\u2019s BBC Radio2 to premiere \u201cLover Man\u201d on air [listen here:\u00a0http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p05z02zp<\/a>] and then did the same for NPR\u2019s World Caf\u00e9 in the US. \u201cLover Man,\u201d which UNCUT deemed \u201ca weaponised piece of funk, with Buddy Miles in particularly thunderous form,\u201d was recorded at the Record Plant in New York on December 15, 1969 by Hendrix\u2019s then recently assembled new band: Billy Cox on bass, Buddy Miles on drums and Jimi Hendrix on guitar and vocals. The session took place two weeks before the trio introduced itself to the world via four triumphant New Year\u2019s Eve and New Year\u2019s Day concerts at the Fillmore East, which would ultimately yield the live album\u00a0Band of Gypsys<\/em>\u00a0(1970) as well as its recently released, critically acclaimed follow up, 2016\u2019s\u00a0Machine Gun<\/em>.\u00a0 While the song became a favorite Hendrix concert staple, this dynamic studio rendition of \u201cLover Man\u201d has been never before been issued.<\/p>\n

One of the best-known songs in the entire Hendrix canon, \u201cFoxey Lady\u201d first appeared on the Jimi Hendrix Experience\u2019s debut album\u00a0Are You Experienced<\/em>\u00a0(1967). The live recording of it that serves as the single\u2019s B-side comes from the band\u2019s second European tour. It was recorded when the original Jimi Hendrix Experience (Jimi, bassist Noel Redding, drummer Mitch Mitchell) performed it at Vitus Studios in Bussum, Holland on November 10, 1967.<\/p>\n

Both Sides of the Sky<\/em><\/strong>, the album home of \u201cLover Man,\u201d is the third volume in a<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

trilogy of albums intended to present the best and most significant unissued studio recordings remaining in Jimi Hendrix\u2019s archive. It follows\u00a0Valleys of Neptune<\/em>\u00a0(2010) and\u00a0People, Hell and Angels<\/em>\u00a0(2013), which both achieved top 5 chart ranking on Billboard\u2019s Top 100 album chart. Recorded between January 1968 and February 1970, and featuring guest appearances by Stephen Stills, Johnny Winter and Lonnie Youngblood,\u00a0Both Sides of the Sky<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0contains 10 unreleased tracks. It will be available on CD, digital, and as a numbered 180-gram audiophile vinyl 2LP. The project was co-produced by Eddie Kramer, Jimi Hendrix\u2019s recording engineer on all of his albums made during his life, along with Janie Hendrix and John McDermott.<\/p>\n
