LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON X THE BAND 40TH ANNIVERSARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

LA-based punk group regarded as one of the most influential in the movement<\/em><\/p>\n

Los Angeles CITY HALL (Perfect Music Today) 10\/10\/17\/– \u2013 City Councilmember Mitch O\u2019Farrell will shine the Council spotlight on X<\/em>, the most critically lauded Los Angeles-based punk band, during a special presentation to commemorate their 40th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The event will take place on Wednesday, October 11, at 10 a.m., at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N Spring St, room 340, Los Angeles, 90012.\u00a0 The Council meeting is open to the public and X\u2019s fans are encouraged to attend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the presentation, the Councilmember will present official City certificates to each band member, as well as proclaim \u201cX Day in the City of Los Angeles.\u201c<\/p>\n

Although each member hails from a different part of the country, the band itself has roots right here in Los Angeles. The band began in 1977, when bassist John Doe and guitarist Billy Zoom met through matching classified ads, placed on the same day, in a local publication. Exene Cervenka first met Doe at a poetry workshop in Venice, and the two fell in love and became bandmates. D.J. Bonebrake then joined the group, and they began playing at the Masque, Hollywood’s seminal punk club.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Rolling Stone Magazine, \u201cX emerged from the L.A. punk scene as the most critically lauded American band of the early ’80s.\u201d \u00a0X’s music was labeled as punk, and was known for a more sophisticated sound than the hardcore tone that would later define the genre. \u00a0In celebration of the band\u2019s 40th anniversary, the GRAMMY Museum\u00ae in downtown Los Angeles will debut X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles<\/em> on Friday, Oct. 13. The exhibit will be on display in the Museum\u2019s Special Exhibits Gallery on the second floor through spring 2018.<\/p>\n
