ROLLING STONES RELEASE COLLECTORS EDITION OF THEIR<\/p>\n

SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST.<\/span><\/p>\n

HOLLYWOOD(Perfect Music Today)9\/7\/17\/–Hard to believe it has been fifty years since this cult album was released,\u00a0<\/span>but ABCKO are releasing an amazing tribute with a Double Vinyl\/Double\u00a0<\/span>Hybrid SACD treatment set, including Mono and Stereo versions with\u00a0<\/span>restored original lenticular cover art. I remember those days when the\u00a0<\/span>major acts like the Beatles and the Stones released albums at least\u00a0<\/span>once a year, and when this came out it certainly got a mixed reaction\u00a0<\/span>from hard core fans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over time however the music has been covered by many bands\u00a0<\/span>Including Kiss, The Damned, Redd Kross, Bad Brains, Arcade\u00a0<\/span>Fire and others and a revisit is well in order.<\/span><\/p>\n

In those days however virtually every major UK act released a\u00a0<\/span>Psychedelic style album with mixed results. One of those being a\u00a0<\/span>group who supported the Stones in the early days called the Pretty\u00a0<\/span>Things who are still going strong, and who put out a classic called\u00a0<\/span>S.F.Sorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally released in December 1967, the album was recorded over an eight \u00a0<\/span>month period that year, and the scattered recording schedule was partly due\u00a0<\/span>to the legal and drug problems Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Keith Richards were dealing with that year. Jones also spent three weeks in a nursing\u00a0home. They also lost their first manager\/producer Andrew Loog Oldham\u00a0<\/span>that year and the band had to finish the album themselves. According\u00a0to Charlie Watts it was very rare to have all five members in the studio\u00a0<\/span>at the same time and he added \u201cThe sessions were a lot of fun because\u00a0<\/span>you could do anything. It was so druggy-acid and all that.\u201d Folks, we\u00a0<\/span>are talking about the real good stuff that was floating around London\u00a0<\/span>at that time like the LSD soaked onto a sugar cube.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was also the first Rolling Stones album to have identical track lists\u00a0<\/span>in the U.K. and U.S. The ten tracks on the album are saturated with\u00a0<\/span>studio effects such as the mellotron and theremin along with oscillators\u00a0<\/span>and string arrangements. Those were created by musical genius John\u00a0<\/span>Paul Jones, later of Led Zeppelin. Of the ten songs, the Stones only\u00a0<\/span>ever played two of them live, \u201cShe\u2019s a Rainbow\u201d and \u201c2000 Light Years\u00a0<\/span>From Home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn Another Land\u201d is the only song in the Stones heralded history both\u00a0<\/span>written and sung by Bill Wyman, who took full advantage when he was the\u00a0<\/span>only Stone to show up one day for work. Later on Jones added mellotron, Nicky\u00a0<\/span>Hopkins added harpsichord and Mick and Keith added back up vocals.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition the Small Faces added vocals and the mercurial Steve Marriott\u00a0<\/span>played acoustic guitar.\u00a0<\/span>The amazing artwork was created by Michael Cooper also hired for\u00a0<\/span>Sergeant Pepper. The original lenticular technology proved to be very\u00a0<\/span>expensive to re-produce and was only used on the first pressing, with\u00a0<\/span>subsequent pressings using still photography.<\/span><\/p>\n
