Hollywood, CA (Perfect Music Today) 4/29/18/–Owen Husney the man from Minneapolis who introduced Prince to the world just released his autobiography Famous People Who’ve Met Me. It’s an amazing story of a  concert promoter turned artist manger who signed the 17 year old wunderkind. In 1977 Husney got Prince an extraordinary record deal for an unsigned artist. It was a three record deal giving Prince total artistic control.

Husney held a standing room only event last week in Hollywood at Mr. Musichead Gallery. Husney presented a slide show chronicling his life and career.
Gary Calamar music supervisor and renown DJ at KCRW conducted an interesting Q&A. A highlight for me was presenting Husney with a photo I had taken of him back in 1989.
David Z (producer and engineer for Prince, and lifelong friend of Husney),

Among those in attendance were David Z (producer and engineer for Prince, and lifelong friend of Husney),

The evening concluded with live performances from two great L.A. based musicians who got their start in Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis. Andre Cymone and Peter Himmelman sang and played guitar performing their own songs and also playing together on several tunes. Some members of the audience joined in for a jam session. Himmelman performed an impromptu and funny tribute song to Husney. Cymone gave a touching tribute to Husney speaking about how Husney’s sense of humor greatly influenced Prince, and Cymone.
