Slightly Stoopid – Irvine Amphitheater –

By Peter Peterson

Irvine,CA(Perfect Music Today)6/28/16/–I would say that Slightly Stoopid filled the night time stars with musical goodness, but you could not see the stars this night due to all the goodness being consumed. Young and old showed up for a hazy night of Zion Reggae. There was a week break between my last cleansing fish, not Phish, festival and my next show; Slightly Stupid. Now that’s my kind of people. The week could not pass by quicker.   On the day of the show, during the staff briefing, management communicated that” they have information that there will be a lot of marijuana consumption”

I spoke up and said “REALLY?” I just don’t think management knew just how much marijuana was going to be consumed in staff lungs. While I was assigned up front and center I realized the crew from Weed Maps was in the house. Damn, those guys smoke a lot of weed. After previous audience experiences, it was nice to manage a decent crowd. Sure, there were numerous vomiting incidences, but they had the decency to just puke at their seat instead of clogging up the bathroom lines. Sucks to be the person next to them but the bathroom patrons thank you. Not too much fighting, but stoners usually get tired quickly. It’s the drunk stoners you have to keep your eye on. They will do something stupid, but they are very slow. HA-HA!

There was one big bonfire in lawn seating, and not a bad one, as bonfires go; gotta admire their creativity. Ever wonder why Irvine Meadows restricts most things flammable?   Because they burn, and fire is BAD in concert situations, cut to Great White in Rhode Island. That didn’t work out to well. But the good folks at Live Nation controlled the situation. No broken bone incidence to report but, there was this 17 year old punk from Newport Beach that though he could sneak in and make a scene. Well, he was caught and hauled down to our wonderful containment facility, compare to big dog cage, (Ahhh, the memories!) and put on time out until his parents showed up to get him.

Oh, damn the bad luck, his parents were out of town or just getting away from their idiot child. So, Irvine PD had to roust the grandparents. That boy just got is trust rearranged.   The highlight in the Pit area was Slightly Stupid lite up this foot long RAW blunt, took two rips (puff, puff, pass) and gave it to the crowd. I now know why half the pit crowd left before slightly stupid finished their set. That blunt lasted a long time. There had to be some swigity shwag in that blunt to steamroll the entire front row of pit.

And I have smoked some big ass blunts. Aside from the happy hungry horny crowd attending this show the next best thing was leaving. I consistently spend 30 – 45 minutes getting out of the parking lot after a show. When I clocked out tonight, there were no exit lines. As if all my people consumed enough weed and thought, I’ve had several hours of great reggae music, several beers and blunts; I might as well go home. It took me 5 minutes to exit. It just goes to show that weed is good for all. It’s funny, as an employee of an outdoor concert venue; we have strict cigarette smoking guidelines. Don’t smoke in public, no walking and smoking, go to the smoking area. But we hold cannabis unaccountable. But on a night like tonight, I think smoking ganja was just a given…

I do want to mention the opening artists. Fortunate Youth, which for a 6pm 4 band opener, their fan base showed up. And I know why. These guys were very good. Shit, their parents were there, hell Yea!! Although, they could have had better seats, just saying! Look Fy up on the internet. Grouch and Eligh put on great show. Damn that boy can rap fast. DJ Fresh fired up the crowd during his solo. SOJA and Slightly stupid proved to their fan base why they love them. Sadly, Slightly Stupid did not sing my fav song “Top of the World” Maybe next show. Until my next show, G- Eazy, July 03, 2016, fly low and avoid the radar.
